Trial trenches.

Trial trenches where they matter, dug and surveyed by our own team. We record the actual position of cables and pipelines before the design is finalised.

Components

What we do, layer by layer.

Each component can be ordered separately. Together they form one drawing that you see grow in the client portal.

03.1

Trial trench plan

We determine where a trial trench is needed: at high-risk interfaces, unclear positions and crossings. For each trench we record its purpose, dimensions and the cables and pipelines we expect to find.

03.2

Site walk and preparation

Before we dig, we walk the locations: trees, paving, driveways and manholes. With a current KLIC notification and agreements with the grid operator, every trench is prepared in advance.

03.3

Digging and surveying

We dig the trial trenches by hand or supervise the contractor. Every cable and pipeline found is surveyed with RTK-GNSS: position, depth, diameter and material, in RD and NAP.

03.4

Reporting and feedback

For each trench we record what we found and what it means for the design. Deviations are processed straight into the drawing.

Input and output

What you provide and what you get back.

What we need from you

Don’t have everything yet? A proposed route or a question is enough to start.

  1. Route or work area, on a map or as a drawing
  2. KLIC delivery, or we file the notification
  3. Desired locations or the interface register
  4. Contact person and any access arrangements

What you receive

Everything is stored in your project file in the client portal, also after handover.

  • PDFTrial_trench_report_PS01-PS06.pdfPer trench: photos, positions and depths
  • CSVSurvey_RD_NAP.csvSurveyed points with X, Y and Z
  • DWGDesign_rev-C.dwgDesign updated with the findings
  • PDFTrial_trench_plan.pdfLocations and purpose per trench

We dig where it matters.

A KLIC delivery gives an indication, not a guarantee. A targeted trial trench tells you where you stand before construction starts.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

More in the knowledge base
01

When is a trial trench needed?

At interfaces with a high risk class, where the KLIC delivery is unclear, and at crossings where the exact depth matters. In the trial trench plan we substantiate why each trench is needed.

02

Do you dig the trial trenches yourselves?

Trial trenches and surveying are done by our own team. If you use your own contractor for the digging, we supervise the trenches and do the survey.

03

Do you work safely on site?

Our field team is VCA certified and always works from a current KLIC notification. On site we follow the safety agreements of the client and the grid operator.
